Love to hike? If so, you might think that you must travel to fulfill your love for the great outdoors, when in reality, you can hike right here in Houston! This Saturday, join Bayou City Outdoors and HTXoutdoors for A Walk in the Woods, a hiking event at Memorial Park. Check it out on June 15th beginning at 8:30 a.m.!
Memorial Park, known as the Central Park of H-Town, is one of the largest parks in the country at an amazing 1,466 acres. The park’s trails are a mix of hard-packed dirt, sand, trees and tree roots. As it turns out, Houston is wooded and wild in the middle of the city! You’ll be shocked at some of the elevation in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by.
A Walk in the Woods will entail an hour and a half, quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails Memorial Park has to offer. Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. Remember to bring water as there are no water fountains along the trails! Unfortunately, this is not a dog or kid-friendly event.
Bayou City Outdoors is a social club of active Houstonians who love the outdoors and mingling with other like-minded people. With over 700 active members, Bayou City Outdoors is the area’s preeminent social club for those aged 18 to 80. HTXoutdoors is the sister club to Bayou City Outdoors and focuses on activities for young adults in the 20’s and 30’s.
Get in touch with nature this Saturday at A Walk in the Woods, hosted by Bayou City Outdoors and HTXoutdoors! The group will meet at Memorial Park near the rugby and soccer field parking lot. Admission is free, and all are welcome. It is advisable that attendees check the meeting location map on the Bayou City Outdoors site calendar before you head over to the park. The calendar and further event information is available at www.bayoucityoutdoors.com.
At The Enclave at Woodbridge Apartments in Sugar Land, Texas, it is clear that we have it all, but we still feel obliged to inform you of all the events our community has scheduled. Please feel free to join in all of the fun during this premier event!
