Camilo Blanes Cortes, better known by his stage name Camilo Sesto, is one of Spain’s most famous singers. He is also a songwriter, producer and composer of romantic pop and rock ballads in the Latino genre. Sesto started his music career while playing in a band called Los Botines, mostly influenced by the Beatles. After meeting producer Juan Pardo the artist decided to go on his own, releasing his first record and the hit songs "Fresa Salvaje" and "Algo De Mi" soon after. By 1974, Sesto was known throughout Latin America. To take advantag!e of that popularity, the singer started touring South America and the U.S. to critical acclaim everywhere.
Camilo Sesto's career climax came while playing a main role in the Spanish version of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1975. Three years later, his song "El Amor De Mi Vida" became one of his major hits. Sesto announced his unexpected retirement in 1985, giving rise to many speculations about why he chose to leave behind an impressive career. Nevertheless, the artist returned to the stage in 1991, releasing “A Voluntad Del Cielo” followed by “Amor Sin Vértigo.”
From the 1970s onward, Sesto created many hit songs, and almost all of them were authored, interpreted, composed, and produced by the artist himself. Most of Camilo's works are in Castilian Spanish, but he has also recorded songs in English, Catalan, Italian, German, Japanese and Portuguese. To date, Camilo Sesto has sold over 175 million albums worldwide. This number excludes the sales of the artists who Sesto produced and wrote compositions for, which separately total to great numbers themselves.
