Art aficionados, be sure not to miss the latest exhibition to hit Blaffer Art Museum! This Saturday, check out Rebecca Morris: The Ache of Bright, a display of ten works by the artist, all completed over the past four years. See it on February 23rd beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Since the early 1990s, the Los Angeles-based artist Rebecca Morris has explored the vast visual language of abstract painting. Inventing an extensive array of original forms, compositional rules, and improvisational associations, Morris creates highly considered images that simultaneously construct and disassemble themselves. Varying widely in scale and density, her paintings are both unpredictable and precise, often featuring an ebullient cacophony of hues, patterns, layers, and gestures.

This exhibition, Morris’s first solo US museum presentation since 2005, includes recent major paintings that survey the range of the artist’s practice. Rebecca Morris: The Ache of Bright is organized by Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston. The exhibition is curated by Tyler Blackwell, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Curatorial Fellow.

The Blaffer Art Museum is the contemporary art museum of the University of Houston. Founded in 1973, the Blaffer endeavors to further the understanding of contemporary art through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. As the gateway between the University of Houston’s Central campus and the City of Houston, Blaffer Art Museum is a catalyst for creative innovation, experimentation, and scholarship. Its exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public, create community through dialogue and participation, and inspire an appreciation for the visual arts as a vital force in shaping contemporary culture.
